name: edits
description: Make short video edits with Made, the beat-cut "aura" edits people post on TikTok, Reels and Shorts. They're made from one photo, from the person's own talking video (key words as designed type, cutaways, props on colour cards, music), or by rebuilding an edit the person uploads with them in it. Covers picking a preset, getting files in, checking the photo, the price in credits, running the edit, delivering the MP4, turning the person's notes on a talking-head edit into the next version, and saving their look for every edit after. Use when someone asks for an anime or trading-card edit of their photo, wants their talking video or podcast clip cut into a short, gives notes on an edit ("at 0:03 the type's too big"), or says "make this edit with me in it".

# Edits

Use Made MCP at `https://mcp.made.app/mcp`. Made makes the whole edit in one job: the frames, any short animated shots, the music and the beat-cut render. You never write prompts, cut video or pick models yourself. The same presets run in the browser at https://www.made.app/edits, and every edit lands in the person's Made history.

Tools: `list_edits`, `make_edit` and `job_status`, plus `upload_media`, `media_upload` + `media_confirm` and `show_medias` for getting files in, and `get_edit_style` + `save_edit_style` for the person's saved look. If `make_edit` isn't on the connected server, send the person to https://www.made.app/edits instead of building an edit by hand with other tools.

## 1. Pick the edit

- If the person named a look ("anime edit of me", "make me a trading card"), match it to a preset.
- If they're vague ("make me an edit"), call `list_edits` and offer three or four that fit what they have: a photo points to the photo presets, a talking video to `talking-head`, and a clip to the clip presets when the list has any. One line each: the title, what it looks like and "about N credits".
- A video of them talking to camera, a podcast clip or a long recording is the `talking-head` preset: see the section at the end.
- "Make this edit with me in it", or a reference video plus their photo, is the `custom` preset: Made rebuilds that edit shot for shot with them in it, on its own cuts and sound.
- Clip presets, when `list_edits` shows any, don't generate anything new, so they are the quick, cheap choice for someone who already has good footage.

## 2. Ask only for what's missing

Each preset lists its `inputs`: photos (how many), videos, a reference video, and text inputs such as a name line, with their limits and defaults. Ask in one message for the required inputs you don't have yet. Optional text inputs use their defaults if the person doesn't care; never invent a name or words for them. `wishes` is for anything they want changed ("keep my glasses", "colder colors"), in their words.

If `make_edit` answers "Not started, nothing spent" with a list, ask for exactly that list and call it again. Nothing was charged.

## 3. Get the photo or video in

Inputs are uploaded media ids (`media_…`), prior job ids (`job_…`), or `https://` links straight to the file.

- Something they uploaded before: `show_medias` and reuse its id. Uploads are limited per day, so never upload the same file twice.
- A file on their device: open `upload_media` so they pick it. If you can read the file's bytes yourself, use `media_upload`, send the bytes to the returned URL, then `media_confirm`.
- A photo they attached in this chat: look at it for the check in step 4, but Made can't read it from the chat, so get it in the same way.
- A link to a post on TikTok, Instagram or YouTube is a page, not a video file. Ask them to save the video and upload it.

## 4. Check the photo before spending

Look at every photo before you run anything:

- One person, the face clearly visible (not tiny, covered or turned away), sharp and reasonably lit.
- No one who looks under 18, and no nudity. Refuse those plainly and don't run the edit.
- It should be them, or someone who agreed. If the photo looks like someone else, ask once.

If a photo is blurry, dark or a group shot, say what's wrong and ask for a better one. If you can't see the photo (only an id or a link), go ahead: Made checks it again as the first step.

## 5. Say the price in credits

Prices are credits, never money: 90 means "90 credits". The "about N credits" from `list_edits` is the guide; say it when you propose a preset.

Get the exact price with `make_edit` and `get_cost: true` (free) when the person asks, before `custom` (its price depends on the reference's length), before several takes at once, or when their balance may be short. Show it and wait for a yes, then run with the same inputs and `max_cost_cents` set to that quote. Otherwise, once they've okayed the "about N credits", just run it: `make_edit` caps the run at the current price. If the balance is too low, the response opens the credits window; tell them in one line and stop.

## 6. Run it

Call `make_edit` with `preset`, `inputs` and, only if they asked for another shape, `aspect_ratio` (most presets are 9:16; some also make 16:9). It returns the job and what it costs. Tell the person it has started and takes a few minutes.

A retry of the same call returns the same job and never charges twice. For another version with the same inputs, pass `take: 2` (then 3, and so on); each take is a new paid edit.

## 7. Follow it

Poll `job_status` with the job id about every 20 seconds (or send a progressToken with a longer `wait_timeout_seconds` to be told as it moves). While it runs, `job_status` shows the stage: checking the photo, making the frames, animating the clips, cutting the edit to the music. Give the person one short line when the stage changes ("Making the frames, 3 of 6"), not one per poll. Don't call it stuck before several minutes.

## 8. Deliver

When it succeeds, give them the MP4 link from the job's video asset, and say it's also in their Made history. Then offer one or two next steps: notes for the next version (talking-head, see below), another take, the same photo in another preset, different words, or 16:9 if the preset makes it.

If it fails, say what went wrong in plain words. Made refunds whatever wasn't spent. Try again once only if they want to, and fix the cause first (usually a better photo).

## From your own video (`custom`)

- `reference_video`: the edit they want, as an uploaded video file. Its own sound and cut timing are kept; it's their upload and their responsibility.
- `photos`: one to three photos of them, checked as in step 4.
- `wishes` (optional): what to change from the reference.

Quote first, run with the approved `max_cost_cents`, then follow and deliver as above.

## Their talking video (`talking-head`)

Made edits the person's own video of them talking: it transcribes it, cleans up the take, picks where the key words land, writes the edit and renders it. Key words become designed type on their voice, with cutaways on the phrases, props cut out on colour cards, type behind them, graphics and transitions. They get the MP4 plus a subtitle file and an editable project file.

- `talking_head` (required): their video with their voice, uploaded like any file. A long recording (a podcast, a talk) is fine: Made cuts one self-contained passage of about 20–30 seconds, hook to payoff, and never speeds the voice up.
- `clips` (optional): their own cutaway footage.
- `style` (optional text): the look in their words. `"aura"` is the cinematic one: dark, high-contrast grades, hard type hits, shots of them somewhere new, music cut on the beat.
- `wishes` (optional): anything else.
- `options` (all optional):
  - `generate`: `{ cutaways: true }` has Made make the cutaways, each somewhere different; `count` sets how many and `starring` how many shots show them somewhere new, made from their own frames. Leave it out if they brought their own clips or want none.
  - `objects`: props tied to their words on colour cards. On by default; `false` turns them off.
  - `type_density`: `"keywords"` (default) or `"dense"` for most words as type. It's designed type either way, never a caption bar.
  - `music`: `true` for an instrumental bed under the voice. On by default in the aura style.
  - `sfx`: `true` for sound effects on the hits. Off by default; only add them if the person asks.
  - `passage`: for a long recording, `1` is the best passage and `2`, `3`… are other passages. Offer "another one from the same video" by running the next passage.
  - `clean`: on by default. Made cuts the ums, false starts, restarts (a line said again) and dead air, and never speeds the voice up. `false` keeps the take as recorded; only send it if they ask.
  - `use_style`: on by default, so their saved look applies (see below). `false` makes this one edit without it. Options you send win over the saved ones for that edit.
- Shapes: 9:16 by default; 16:9 and others are in the preset's `aspect_ratios`.
- Price: quote with `get_cost` first. Generated cutaways and starring shots cost the most; their own footage only costs the transcript, the props, the writing and the render.

Shots that show the person somewhere new are made from their own frames, so the same rules as a photo apply: it should be them or someone who agreed, no one who looks under 18, no nudity.

## Their saved look

Each person can save one look for their talking-head edits. It applies to every edit and every revision after, so they choose it once instead of every time.

- Before their first talking-head edit, call `get_edit_style`. If nothing is saved, ask once, in one message, how their edits should look: the palette (made, ember, cobalt, sun, bloom, mint, mono, clay, aura), the typeface (grotesk, condensed, wide, serif, didone, mono), key words only or dense type, the type size (smaller, standard, bigger), props on colour cards, music, sound effects, brand colours as `#RRGGBB`, and anything else in their words (up to 300 characters). What they don't care about stays Made's default. Save it with `save_edit_style`, then make the edit.
- If they'd rather see an edit first, make it and offer to save the look once they like one.
- `save_edit_style` replaces the whole look: anything left out is cleared. To change one thing ("bigger type from now on"), call `get_edit_style`, change that one field, and save the whole look back.
- For a one-off without it, run `make_edit` with `options.use_style: false`.
- When a quote says it applies their saved look, say so in a few words.

## Notes → next version

Once a talking-head edit is finished, ask them to watch it and give notes, with times where they can: "at 0:03 the type's too big", "cut the pause before 'Then'", "keep the opening", "less flashing overall". Notes can change anything in the design (type, sizes, cards, where cutaways and props sit, graphics, cuts, camera, colours, density, sound effects) and can cut the voice ("drop this sentence", "start on the second line"). They can't bring in new footage, another shape or new music: that's a new edit.

- Collect all their notes, then send them as one revision: `make_edit` with `revise` (the job id of the edit they watched, any version) and `notes`, and nothing else. `options.use_style: false` is the only option a revision takes.
- Each note is `{ at, end, kind, about, text }`:
  - `at` and `end` are seconds on the edit they watched: "at 0:03" is `at: 3`, "from 0:03 to 0:05" is `at: 3, end: 5`. Leave both out for a note about the whole edit.
  - `kind`: `"fix"` (the default) to change it, or `"keep"` for what they like, so the next version doesn't lose it. Pass their praise along as keep notes.
  - `about` (optional): `story`, `cut` (the voice: a pause, a line, where it starts), `type`, `graphic`, `cutaway`, `music` or `other`.
  - `text`: the note in their words, up to 500 characters. 1–20 notes per revision.
- Quote it with `get_cost: true` first. The quote says which version it makes and the price, usually 60–150 credits. Show it, wait for a yes, then run with the same `revise` and `notes` and `max_cost_cents` set to the quote.
- Made reads the notes first, then renders. Once the notes are read, `job_status` shows each note with a reply: what changed, or why not. When it succeeds, give them the MP4 link and the replies, one line per note.
- More notes on the new version: revise the new version's job id. Each revision is the next version (2, 3…), and the earlier ones stay in their history.

## Suggested rules

A revision can suggest up to three rules: general preferences their notes imply, worded as rules, such as "No card while I'm making a point". Offer them after the replies ("Want me to remember this for every edit?") and save only the ones they say yes to: `get_edit_style`, add the approved rules to `rules`, and `save_edit_style` the whole look. Never save a rule they didn't approve. A look holds up to 20 rules, each 3–160 characters; if it's full, ask which one to drop.
