Color grade in DaVinci Resolve with Claude.

Ask for a look, a change in plain words, or a match to a reference image. Made grades the clip and adds it as a new color version, then Claude checks the frame and adjusts. Your original grade stays one click away.

Match this clip to sunset.jpg on my desktop.

  1. Maderesolve_statusDone

    “Coffee Spot”, Timeline 1. A001_C003.mov is under the playhead: 1 node, Version 1.

  2. Maderesolve_get_frameDone

    The frame at 01:00:02:12, as it looks now.

  3. Maderesolve_gradereference_path: ~/Desktop/sunset.jpgDone

    Added “Made · Match sunset” with a Made LUT on node 01. Version 1 is untouched.

Done. It’s brighter, with softer contrast and lifted blacks, blue in the shadows and warm gold in the midtones and highlights, like the still. Say the word and I’ll switch back to Version 1.

LUT: Made/match-sunset-3f9a1c2b.cube

Version 1
Made · Match sunset
The clip is a real Made grade: the café shot matched to the sunset still, by the engine the plugin uses. The Resolve window is a drawing; the plugin hasn’t run in DaVinci Resolve yet.

Real Made grades, before and after

A match to a reference and two looks, from the same engine that makes the plugin’s LUTs. The line sweeps between the original and the grade.

Matched to a referenceBlack and white levels, contrast, saturation and the color of the shadows, midtones and highlights, taken from the still in the corner.
Teal & orange lookTeal shadows and warm highlights, with skin kept natural.
Moonlight lookA cool, darker, low-saturation night look.

Graded by Made’s engine in the browser, original on the left of the line. The plugin puts the same grade on your clip in Resolve as a LUT.

How it works

Your assistant does the colorist’s part in words. Made does the math and hands Resolve the result in a form it can’t lose track of.

  • Ask for a look, a change or a match

    Name a look, say what to change in plain words, or point at a reference image. Your assistant looks at the frame first, and can preview an idea before it touches your project.

  • It lands as a new version with a Made LUT

    Made builds the grade and adds it to the clip as a new color version, with the grade as a LUT on node 1. On a clip you’ve already graded, it goes after your nodes instead.

  • Your original grade stays one click away

    The clip’s other versions aren’t touched. Switch back from the clip’s Local Versions menu, or ask your assistant to go back to the original.

Why a LUT, and not nodes

Resolve’s scripting can’t add nodes or set primaries, so Made’s grade arrives as one LUT in its own version. It carries balance, contrast, saturation, the color wheels and skin protection. Film grain, halation, bloom and the other textures aren’t in a LUT, so add those with Resolve’s own effects.

Set up in three steps

Download the plugin, run its installer, and add Made to your AI app. The installer prints every line below with your own paths.

  1. 1Download and unzip

    One folder with the two Resolve scripts, the MCP server and an installer. Keep it somewhere permanent, like Documents.

  2. On Windows: py install.py

    2Run the installer

    It copies the scripts into Resolve, checks Made can write its LUT folder, and prints the setup for your AI app with your paths filled in.

  3. 3Connect Resolve

    Studio: turn on external scripting. Free, 21.0 or earlier: run Made Bridge from the Scripts menu each session.

Add Made to your AI app

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop runs the Made server on your computer. Add it to its config file once.

  1. 1

    In Claude Desktop, open Settings, then Developer, then Edit Config.

  2. 2

    Merge this into claude_desktop_config.json, with the paths install.py printed:

    claude_desktop_config.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "made-resolve": {
          "command": "/usr/bin/python3",
          "args": [
            "/Users/you/Documents/Made for DaVinci Resolve/made_resolve_mcp.py"
          ]
        }
      }
    }
  3. 3

    Restart Claude Desktop, open Resolve with a clip on the timeline, and ask for a grade.

The paths are examples. install.py prints these with your Python and your folder, and on Windows the command is the full path to python.exe.

Free version or Studio

Blackmagic keeps scripting from outside Resolve for Studio. The free version still gets Made’s grades, from a menu script.

Free version

Works with the free version

Grade in your browser, click LUT, then run Workspace › Scripts › Made - Apply latest grade. The newest LUT from your Downloads goes on the clip as a new version. No assistant needed.

21.0 and earlier
Both scripts. Made Bridge also gives your assistant live control.
21.1 and later
Blackmagic moved Python scripting to Studio, so the scripts can’t run. Put the LUT on a node yourself.
Studio

Live control with Studio

Turn on external scripting once and your assistant grades, looks at the frame, and adjusts, with nothing to run inside Resolve.

Setting
Preferences › System › General › External scripting using: Local
Your assistant
Sees the frame, grades from a look, words or a reference, and switches versions.

What you need

Nothing to buy from Made. Grades are built online; your footage stays on your computer.

Studio for live grading with your assistant. The free version runs the scripts up to 21.0.
Computer
macOS, Windows or Linux, with Python 3.8 or newer.
AI app
Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor or any app that runs local MCP servers.
Footage
Rec.709. For log, keep your camera conversion on its own node.

Still have questions?

Free and Studio, what changes in your project, and what leaves your computer.

Has it been tested in DaVinci Resolve?

Not yet. It follows Blackmagic’s scripting documentation and published measurements of how Resolve’s scripting behaves, and it passes tests against a simulated Resolve, but it hasn’t run in DaVinci Resolve itself. If something doesn’t work, tell us at support@made.app.

Does it work with the free version of DaVinci Resolve?

Up to 21.0, yes: Made - Apply latest grade puts your newest Made LUT on the clip, and Made Bridge gives your assistant live control. Resolve 21.1 moved Python scripting to Studio, so on free 21.1 and later the scripts can’t run; you can still download the LUT from Made’s Color Grading tool and put it on a node yourself.

What does it change in my project?

Each grade is a new local color version on the clip, named like “Made · Teal & orange”, with the grade as a LUT on one node. The clip’s other versions, including its original, aren’t touched, and Made never deletes a version you made. The LUT files go in a Made folder inside Resolve’s LUT folder.

Why is the grade a LUT and not separate nodes?

Resolve’s scripting can’t add nodes or set primaries. It can add a color version and put a LUT on a node, so that’s how the grade arrives. The LUT carries balance, contrast, saturation, the color wheels and skin protection. Grain, halation, bloom, haze, softness and vignette aren’t part of a LUT.

Can my assistant see what it’s doing?

Yes. It can look at the frame under the playhead before it grades, and every grade returns the new frame so it can check the result and adjust. It can also preview an idea without changing your project.

Does my footage upload anywhere?

No. Looks and plain-word changes send only the settings. Matching a reference or previewing sends one small still of the current frame. Your footage and project stay on your computer.

Is it safe to let an assistant control Resolve?

The plugin does a fixed list of things: read the project, export the frame, add a graded version, switch versions and import media. It can’t run code. Made Bridge only listens on your own computer, with a random token, and turns itself off after an hour without requests.

Why does Made need to write to Resolve’s LUT folder?

Resolve only applies a LUT from a script when the file is in its main LUT folder. Made writes its LUTs to a Made folder there. If that folder belongs to an administrator, the installer and the error message give you the one command that lets Made use it.

What does it cost?

The plugin and Made’s grading are free, with no account needed.

Which AI apps work with it?

Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor and other apps that run local MCP servers. The installer prints the setup for each.

Grade in Resolve by asking.

Ask for a look, a change or a match. Made adds it as a new version, and your original is one click away.
