What a Sora 2 video actually costs
Every number on this page is in dollars, tied to a public source, and was verified on 2026-08-28. Where a price can't be verified — which turns out to be most of the credit-based platforms — we say so instead of estimating.
Sora 2 API shuts down on September 24, 2026
OpenAI's deprecations page states the Videos API and all Sora 2 model aliases (sora-2, sora-2-pro, and dated snapshots) will be removed from the API on September 24, 2026. Replicate shows the same notice and fal.ai has already deprecated its endpoint. The prices below are accurate today; the last section covers video models that will outlive it.
OpenAI API — the verified prices
Direct from OpenAI's published API pricing. Audio is included; portrait and landscape cost the same. A 10-second Sora 2 clip at 720p is exactly $1.00.
| Model | Resolution | Standard | Batch (~24h) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sora 2 | 720p (720×1280 / 1280×720) | $0.10 / second | $0.05 / second |
| Sora 2 Pro | 720p | $0.30 / second | $0.15 / second |
| Sora 2 Pro | 1024p | $0.50 / second | $0.25 / second |
| Sora 2 Pro | 1080p | $0.70 / second | $0.35 / second |
Resellers and API platforms
- Replicate — no markup and no metered price of its own anymore: Sora 2 runs on your own OpenAI API key and OpenAI bills you directly at the rates above.
- fal.ai — listed Sora 2 at $0.10/second (matching OpenAI), but the endpoint now carries a "no longer supported" notice ahead of the API shutdown. Don't build on it.
- Made — we don't carry Sora 2. When a model is in our catalog, members pay the provider's exact wholesale rate with 0% markup; we're not going to list a model a month before its API disappears.
Credit platforms: the price you can't compute
To know what a generation costs on a credit platform you need three numbers: the plan price, the credits included, and the credits one generation consumes. On every credit platform we checked, at least one of the three is missing, unpublished, or changing.
- Higgsfield markets a Sora 2 landing page but publishes no per-generation credit cost for it, and its public API catalog exposes no Sora engine at all. Depending on plan, a Higgsfield credit costs roughly $0.04–$0.07; third-party estimates of 40–70 credits per Sora 2 clip would mean roughly $1.70–$4.90 per clip — but neither figure is verifiable, and top-up credits expire after 90 days.
- Pollo — the third-party figures we found for Sora 2 Pro conflict with each other (90 vs. 180 credits per clip), so we won't publish an effective price at all.
That opacity is the product. When usage is denominated in credits, the platform can change the exchange rate without changing the sticker price. It's why Made's price sheet is published in dollars per generation, kept current, and passed through at cost.

Frequently asked questions
- How much does a Sora 2 video cost?
- On the OpenAI API, Sora 2 costs $0.10 per second of 720p output — a 10-second clip is exactly $1.00, audio included. Sora 2 Pro costs $0.30/second at 720p, $0.50/second at 1024p, and $0.70/second at 1080p. Batch processing (results within ~24 hours) halves all of these rates. Verified against OpenAI's published API pricing on 2026-08-28.
- Is the Sora 2 API shutting down?
- Yes. OpenAI's deprecations page states that the Videos API and the Sora 2 model aliases and snapshots (sora-2, sora-2-pro, and dated snapshots) will be removed from the API on September 24, 2026. Replicate's Sora 2 page carries the same notice, and fal.ai has already marked its Sora 2 endpoint as no longer supported.
- What is the cheapest way to run Sora 2?
- While the API remains available, OpenAI Batch at $0.05 per second of 720p output is the cheapest verifiable way to generate Sora 2 video — half the standard $0.10/second rate, in exchange for results within about 24 hours. Replicate routes Sora 2 through your own OpenAI key, so it costs the same as going direct.
- How much does Sora 2 cost on Higgsfield or other credit platforms?
- It cannot be verified. Higgsfield markets a Sora 2 page but does not publish a per-generation credit cost, and its public API catalog does not expose a Sora engine at all. Third-party estimates of 40–70 credits per clip would put a clip somewhere between roughly $1.70 and $4.90 depending on plan — but those figures are unverifiable, which is exactly the problem with credit-denominated pricing.
