How to use Seamless Pattern Generator

  1. 1

    Describe the motif

Name the elements, style, and palette — “hand-drawn lemons, Mediterranean blue and white.”

  2. 2

    Say “seamless repeating pattern”

That phrasing pushes the model toward even spacing and edge-to-edge coverage.

  3. 3

    Check the tiling

Place the image side by side with itself and inspect where the edges meet.

  4. 4

    Fix the seam if needed

For production use, refine the repeat in a pattern tool — treat the output as the master motif.

Generate a repeating pattern from a description

What it does

Input
A text description of the motif, style, palette, and density
Output
PNG image at 1K resolution
How it works
Made sends your description, and any reference images you add, to GPT Image 2.5 Flare and returns a PNG in the shape you pick: 1K, or 2K for 16:9 and 9:16.
Access

Formats and limits

Input
Text description
Output format
PNG at 1K, or 2K for 16:9 and 9:16
Tileability
Pattern-style output whose edges may not match perfectly — verify the repeat before production
Scale
For large-format printing, upscale the pattern with Image Upscaler first
Consistency
Each generation is a new design; regenerate for variations on a theme

Questions about Seamless Pattern Generator

Is the output truly seamless?

Not guaranteed. The model composes in a repeating style, but exact edge-to-edge tiling is not enforced mathematically. Test by placing the image next to itself; for production fabric or wallpaper, finish the repeat in a pattern tool using the generation as your master motif.

How do I test whether a pattern tiles?

Duplicate the image and butt the copies together horizontally and vertically. Watch the meeting line: motifs that cut off or spacing that jumps reveal the seam. Small mismatches can be retouched; large ones mean regenerating or rebuilding the repeat.

Can I use these patterns on products I sell?

Generated patterns can be used in your product designs. Avoid prompting for existing branded prints or a named designer’s signature style, and check your print-on-demand platform’s content policies for AI-generated art.

What resolution do I get, and is it enough for fabric printing?

Output is a PNG at 1K resolution — comfortable for digital backgrounds and small print areas. Fabric and wallpaper printing usually wants more; run the pattern through Image Upscaler, and remember print vendors specify DPI at physical size.

How do I control how dense or sparse the pattern is?

Say it directly: “sparse, lots of background space” or “dense, tightly packed.” Also name the background color — density and ground color together define how the print reads at a distance.

Can I get variations of the same pattern?

Yes — rerun the same description for sibling designs, or change one variable (palette, scale, one motif) for a coordinated collection. Pattern collections built this way share a hand, like a designer’s range.

What styles work best?

Flat, illustrative styles — line art, watercolor, geometric, folk — repeat most convincingly. Photorealistic motifs are harder to distribute evenly and tend to expose the repeat; if you want realism, keep motifs small and spacing generous.
